My name is Travon, and I’m a democrat! I grew up all my life in Florida. First in a small town wit a big Lake- Okeechobee. Having been raised in a small, country like town I came to grasp and understand the meaning of “neighbors.” It was then that I learned to separate people from policy. We all agree much more often than we think, and honestly both sides are innovative in their approach to solutions. I made the decision to become a democrat because of my priorities. Not so much the party itself. Education and equality are my biggest concerns. The debate I found myself having (which I think is the broad spectrum of which differences among the parties comes down too) is equality vs opportunity. While I agree my country is full of promise and opportunity. It’s not easy being black and offered opportunity. I don’t ever regret being a democrat. I love it in fact! And while I don’t find myself as a centrist yet, I know there’s room in the party for my ideas, it just sometimes takes a push.

I vote democratic because “business as usual” is not the solution, it's the problem. Because I believe in facts, in science, and in the collective power for good. Because we may do so many things wrong in this country, but every new day brings the opportunity to do so many things right. Because I believe in welcoming constant change, and in not being threatened by others' evolutions or revolutions. Because I believe in the promise of America while seeing its flaws and I believe in thinking and acting critically. Because I'm trying to use my voice and my inherent privileges to help those more vulnerable and less visible than I; to balance the scales of justice because I know that any advancement in the rights of some benefits the many. I vote democratic because I know that just because we've always done things a certain way—personally or collectively—doesn't mean they have to stay that way forever.

’m proud to be a Democrat. I was raised in a union home. I know the power of people coming together for a common good. I believe in the innate goodness of every person and that when we work together and towards a better future, we will get there.
I’m a newly elected Indianapolis City-County Councillor. I see the collective goodness of people playing out everyday during this crisis. People are volunteering to shop for neighbors at risk, they are putting teddy bears up in windows and decorating their doors, people are going out of their way to be kind. We are good people and we work together to create positive change. Together, we will all do better. That’s why I’m proud to be a Democrat. Ali Indianapolis, Indiana
